The
town of Allagash
is located in one of the most rural areas of Maine. Allagash
has become famous throughout the eastern United States for its
wild rivers, the Allagash and St. John and top notch big game
hunting. This most northwestern section of Maine has many popular
year round recreational activities: canoeing, fishing for native
cold water species (brook trout, lake trout and landlock salmon),
all aspects of hunting and trapping, ice fishing, snowshoeing
and snowmobiling. The upper St. John river valley is rich in
logging history, and envied by many for its beautiful scenery
and rugged lifestyle. |

| Here
at the Allagash Guide Service
we feel that we offer some of the best hunting experiences in Maine.
By operating this business on a year- round, full-time basis you can
be assured that we are here working hard to make your vacation successful
and enjoyable. By limiting our hunting group size to 20 hunters per
week we have found an ideal balance between personalized service and
the capability to adjust to changing hunting conditions. Our four
individual cabins will make your stay comfortable and relaxing. If
a group requires their own cabin, they will be easily accommodated. |
| Bear
Hunt - * Expanded territory for 2008, we recently acquired 250 sq. miles of exclusive bear hunting territory! * |
Each
year black bear hunters in the state of Maine harvest approximately
3,400 of Maine's 23,000 bruins. Of the eight Wildlife Management
Units (WMU's) in which black bear are hunted, WMU #2 has the highest
annual harvest rate. Each year, WMU #2 accounts for greater than
30% of the total black bear harvest. Allagash Guide Service is located
in the heart of WMU #2. Baiting for black bear is without a doubt,
the most productive and successful way to observe and hunt these
northern Maine bruins. We lease approximately 287,000 acres of land
allowing us to spread out all of our bear baits without competition
from other outfitters. No other outfitter can offer the remote conditions
that we can. By limiting our hunters to 20 per week we feel we can
offer the best of both worlds; we are a full time guide service
without the crowds of the bigger full-time outfitters. Most of our
bait sites have been established for thirty years and frequent
baiting during the month of August assures hunters active stands.
Our tree stands (10'-14' high) and ground blinds are camouflaged
to accommodate all hunting methods (bow, rifle, handgun and black
powder).
There are many recreational
activities to pass the morning hours. For those hunters who score
early in the week, coyote hunting is a popular spare time activity.
We can offer you one of our many canoes to fish, or just paddle
our two great rivers. Bring your camera to photograph moose. This
7-night, 6-day hunt includes: lodging, all meals, transportation
to and from baits and game care.

share an outhouse and a common sauna / shower building. Hunting from
these cabins is truly a unique wilderness experience; they are located on the Big
Black River only a few miles from the Canadian border, you would be hard
pressed to find a more remote location than this in Maine. This location offers beautiful scenery,
moose watching, great muskie fishing and canoeing along with some fantastic bear
hunting territory right out your back door. Our guides and cook who are there
24 hours a day provide all of the services you need: three meals a day, baiting
stands, transporting hunters and retrieving your downed game. Necessary supplies
are sleeping bag, pillow, hunting and fishing gear and personal items. This
