Moose Shed Hunting in Northern Maine

Spring Moose Antler Hunts in Northern Maine

Shake off the winter blues and step into the Maine woods for an unforgettable spring shed hunting adventure. Shed hunting is a one-of-a-kind nature scavenger hunt, and no prior experience is required. Whether you’re a seasoned antler hunter or brand new to the pursuit, the thrill of spotting naturally shed moose antlers on the forest floor is a moment you won’t soon forget.

When to Hunt Moose Sheds

Mid-April through mid-May offers the most favorable conditions for finding shed antlers. During this short window:

  • Vegetation has not fully greened up, making antlers easier to spot
  • Black flies are typically not active yet
  • Most backcountry areas are accessible by four-wheel drive and on foot

Each season is different, and spring weather in northern Maine can be unpredictable. Late snowstorms or wet conditions may affect access or travel, but we adjust plans whenever possible to provide the best experience.

What to Expect

This is an active, physically demanding hunt designed for those who enjoy covering ground and exploring remote wilderness areas.

  • Daily hikes range from 8–15 miles through forested terrain
  • Conditions may include wet ground or lingering snow early in the season, with drier footing later on
  • While chances of finding antlers are good, discoveries are never guaranteed—that’s part of the adventure

What Do You Get to Keep?

The most common question—and the best answer:
Anything you find while shed hunting is yours to keep.
And if luck is on your side, your guide may even share something from their own discoveries.
