Winter Wildlife Tours
Ideal for photographers, families, and nature lovers
When the snow arrives, deer and moose gather in the North Maine Woods, offering a rare chance to see these incredible animals in their natural winter habitats. Our guided wildlife tours take you through quiet backroads and forested areas where deer yard up and moose roam.
Trips can be arranged for a few hours or a full day, depending on your schedule. While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, traveling with an experienced guide greatly increases your chances—and your enjoyment.

Guided Fur Trapping Adventures
An unforgettable hands-on traditional experience
Step back in time and experience an authentic Maine trapping adventure. Each December, we set trap lines for fisher, marten, weasel, and occasionally beaver—depending on conditions.
These weeklong trips include meals, lodging, and the full experience of checking and setting traps with your guide. Choose between a comfortable base in Allagash or a remote backcountry camp for a true wilderness experience. All fur harvested during your trip is yours to keep and will be properly tagged before you depart.

Guided Rabbit Hunts
An exciting hunt that keeps everyone on their toes
For a fun and fast-paced winter hunt, join us and our trained beagles for a day of rabbit hunting. These hunts are ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a memorable outdoor experience.
Although the bag limit is four rabbits per person per day, you can count on plenty of action, laughter, and great memories. Hunts are available by the day or by the week from December through March. Participants must have a small game hunting license and bring their own shotgun and ammunition.

DIY Coyote Hunts
Self-guided hunts over active winter bait sites
From December through April, coyotes move into the Allagash area to hunt near deer yards—making it a prime time for predator control. We maintain active bait sites throughout the season and provide one-person hunting shacks for your use.
You’ll need to bring your own rifle, heater, and gear, but we’ll take care of site setup and access (some locations are truck-accessible, others by snowmobile). While we don’t offer guided hound hunts to the public, DIY coyote hunts over bait are a great option for skilled hunters looking for a challenge.

Guided Ice Fishing Trips
Winter fun on the ice—for families, friends, and first-timers
Northern Maine’s frozen lakes are legendary for winter fishing. From muskellunge (“musky”) to brook trout, salmon, and togue, our guides will get you on the ice where the action is.
We provide traps and gear—just bring your fishing license, warm layers, and a sense of adventure. Some lakes are just an hour away, while others can be part of an overnight expedition. Whether you come for a weekend or a full week, there’s nothing like spending a winter day on the ice with friends and family.

Snowmobiling Adventures
Trail Riding & Backcountry Exploring
The Allagash region sits at the heart of some of Maine’s best snowmobiling—offering both perfectly groomed trails and miles of deep-snow backcountry terrain. Whether you prefer cruising along ITS 92 or breaking fresh powder in the North Maine Woods, we’ll help you shape the winter riding experience you’re looking for.
Backcountry Riding
For riders who want to explore the vast, remote areas of the North Woods, guided backcountry trips are available. These adventures require your own long-track sled and prior riding experience, and offer access to incredible terrain that changes throughout the season. Your guide will navigate regulations, logging roads, and safe travel routes so you can focus on the ride.
DIY Trail Riding
If sticking to the trail system is more your style, Allagash provides direct access to ITS 92 and connecting routes. Our private trail links right from the lodging into the network, and conditions often allow access toward Estcourt or out to Glazier Lake—a favorite spot for a trailside fire or a packed lunch. While we don’t offer guided trail rides, we’re happy to point you toward local guides if you want that option.
From scenic trail riding to full backcountry adventure, Allagash is the perfect base for a snowmobiling experience tailored to your style and skill level.
